About us

Rising from the moribund Cornish slurtronic folk scene , The Kemper Norton Collective first gained prominence through its campaign to redefine South West Water as a range of personal and psychogeographic experiences , rather than a corporate financial brand name. The legendary Radio 3 show Mixing It gave us some valuable airplay and publicity but ultimately the campaign failed.

Embittered yet determined , the collective expanded from its Kernow base to bring coastal slurtronics to Sussex and the rest of the UK , using the then-primitive Internet to communicate and gain new followers. Copies of our first compilation album , Season One , were distributed to Northern England , Alaska , Southend and Brazil. Beautifully designed and handcrafted by eternall ally  Miss Noma , this epic CD featured the work of analogue princess burnthouse , the ravening work drone employeeseven , the psychedelic acoustics of Speckle and Singularity Jones, and the terrifying and mysterious Rradiant Boys , along with collective overlord Kemper Norton himself.  Stuart Maconie broadcast excerpts from the album on his lovely Freakzone radio show on the British Broadcasting Corporation.  Now is also an opportunity to shamelesly  drop the name of British writing legend and Internet Jesus Warren Ellis , who  likes to give us a regular broadcast and shout out.

We then made friends with  the delightful folk at Brighton’s terrific Outer Church, a monthly audiovisual celebration of the uncanny.  You should go. We’ll be in the corner.  Witnessing wonderful  performances from the likes of Pye Corner Audio , Position Normal , Raime , Sone Institurte , Alexander Tucker , Moon Wiring Club ,  Demdike Stare and many many more at this unique regular event  was the inspiration for us to enter the terrifying gladitorial combat that is live performance…..Kemper Norton’s debut  at the Outer Church  was folllowed by  a show in London town’s Vortex , thanks to Jonny Mugwamp’s Exotic Pylon , alongside  the legendary Philip Jeck.   Stay tuned for more !
